Abstract

The aim of the article is to examine the ways neologisms have been used as verbal labels in the linguistic representation of the COVID-19 pandemic within Czech and Russian mass media discourse. Neologisms linked with COVID-19 can be divided into several groups, according to a certain thematic field and their lexical-semantic traits (for example, names of varieties of coronavirus, units used to categorize people during the coronavirus pandemic, names of means of protection, names of vaccines, etc.).

The author argues that a huge variety of these neologisms have been used as verbal labels with a negative connotation in Czech and Russian mass media texts on COVID-19.
