The coronavirus pandemic has significantly affected various areas of social life, including the language sphere. The new reality has given an impuls to the expansion of the vocabulary of a considerable number of languages, including Czech and Russian.
One of the most frequent groups of neologisms of the so-called "coronavirus" period are the names of COVID-19 and its species. Some of these names appear to varying degrees in the Czech and Russian mass media.
The aim of this paper is to present the linguopragmatic features of the functioning of COVID-19 names in Czech and Russian mass media in a comparative aspect and to determine the manifestations of speech aggression related to the topic of the coronavirus pandemic.
