Nietzsche's Greek State and Plato's Best City

Abstract

The paper examines Nietzsche's early essay The Greek State in terms of whether it contains a distinctive political theory. The question can be answered positively in the sense that the author presents a nuanced critique of contemporary politics that on the one hand accepts certain key concepts of modern political theory, but on the other hand interprets them through the prism of Plato's radical anti-individualism and political esoterism.
