Abstract

The article presents a synthesis of research carried out within a project dedicated to the beginning of university Polish Studies in the Czech Republic. It analyses twenty Polish textbooks published before the Second World War - starting with the first publication by Dominik Alois Špachta ("Pokus Čecha o naučení se počátkům gramatiky jazyka polského, který s vlastenci svými sdílí Dominik Špachta") published in Prague in 1837 and ending with a textbook by Vladislav Strnad ("Polsky rychle a všude"), which was released in 1939.

The article comments on the form, structure and applied didactic methods of the analysed publications and introduces their authors. This information has become a starting point for setting concrete research perspectives regarding broadly conceived historical transformations in the language and image of Czech-Polish relations over the research period.
