Abstract
Terrestrial snails are proverbially slow and therefore cannot escape from fires. However, there is plenty of evidence of their survival, especially outside the epicenters of burning Mediterranean vegetation.
Their communities can return to their original state as quickly as the local vegetation. This is facilitated by their estivation, but also by their hidden way of life.
