Abstrakt
The article depicts the meaning of the Moon for the ancient Israel and Judaism including its meaning for the Hebrew religious calendar. It deals with so called Rosh Chodesh that is related to the New Moon, discusses its semi-festival character and focuses on the symbolic of the Moon.
The Moon is considered the national symbol in the rabbinic writings and it is even a symbol of the growth or decline of his glory.
