Psychotherapeutic Interventions for Adolescents with Online Addictive Behaviour

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to map and describe the most frequently used psychotherapeutic interventions for adolescents at risk of online addictive behaviour and the specific aspects of working with this population. Adolescents with online addictions have lower motivation to seek treatment and prefer help from peers.

Researchvalidated procedures in the treatment of online addictive behaviour with adolescents include motivational therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and family therapy. Effective interventions are those aimed at reducing the symptoms of online addictive behaviour.

In particular, these are interventions that include parenting counselling, self-control training programmes, and group therapy. Comprehensive programmes working with clients at different levels (individual, family, group) and psychotherapeutic interventions supplemented with pharmacotherapy were identified as the most effective.
