Abstract
The chapter presents the project of a corpus-based Italian-Czech dictionary of idioms realized with important help from MA and PhD students of the Department of Italian Studies at Charles University in Prague. After a brief survey of the most important Italian and Czech idiom dictionaries, published in the last decades, the employed methodology is described, especially the frequency criterion allowing to identify, thanks to the analysis of a large corpus of written Italian (ItWac, CORIS), idiomatic phrases really used in contemporary Italian, as well as the sources for searching and verifying Czech equivalents (parallel corpus InterCorp, bilingual dictionaries, dictionaries of idioms, thesauruses).
The problems related to the methodology and some interesting results of the corpus analysis, connected with the frequency of particular idioms, their variations and use in the context, are discussed too.
