Abstract

A review of the novel The River (Väylä) by the contemporary Finnish writer Rosa Liksom, which describes the experiences of Finnish refugees and their painful journey across the Tornio River to Sweden and back to Finland after the end of the Lapland War. The story is told by a thirteen-year-old narrator, which gives it rawness and authenticity.
