Abstract
The third edition of the monograph by our leading specialists in the field is a comprehensive practical manual that seeks to provide comprehensive information on the causes, symptoms and treatment of the most serious and common pathologies of newborns. It should help in the rapid diagnosis of problems of the newborn after birth and in the first days of life, present a broad differential diagnostic consideration and provide clear up-to-date recommendations leading to the treatment of the pathology, to the stabilization of the condition, or to the preparation of the newborn for transport.
The chapters are arranged alphabetically, each corresponding to a clinical, laboratory or diagnostic problem. In addition to updating the text of the new edition, chapters on genetic investigation and diagnosis, surgical issues in neonatology, neonatal infections, supportive and palliative care, and pharmacology in neonatology have been added and expanded.
The publication is intended for paediatricians and neonatologists of all medical institutions, but especially for doctors of smaller and medium-sized maternity, neonatal and paediatric wards, who do not have a wide background of intensive care units. It will also be a valuable source of professional information for undergraduate and postgraduate studies and preceptorship training in paediatrics and neonatology.
The first edition of the publication won the award of the Czech Medical Society JEP Board for the best professional book publication in 2013.
