Abstract

The chapter presents the linguistic situation in the Maghreb countries and its consequences for literary creation. It focuses on the emancipatory and autonomizing expressions of authors writing in French towards the metropolis, and highlights the importance of the essayistic and literary journalistic production of these authors.

It reflects on the position of the French language in the given region, particularly with an emphasis on the colonial and post-colonial situation, and on the relationship of the authors of the authors to the language of creation.
