Abstract

The study focuses on the influence of Masaryk's personality on the formation of Czech interwar thought. The key moment are the contemporary interpretations of Masaryk as an excessive individualist defending the interests of only a certain part of society (the bourgeoisie).

The analysis of texts by Arnošt Inocence Bláha, Edvard Beneš and Miloš Trapl shows some essential features of Masaryk's conception of individual (beautiful individualism, individualism as an integral part of realism or its contemporary misinterpretations, the sociality of Masaryk's thought).
