Autognosis and Heterognosis: An Introduction to the Thought of Individuality

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |
2023

Abstract

The study deals with the prematurely deceased philosopher Karel Vorovka and his concept of "gnosis", which he considered to be an entry into the spiritual world. Vorovka was the unelected leader of the "younger philosophical generation" and his early work Skepse a gnóze made him well known within cultural and social circles.

The text focuses especially on his attempt at an intersubjective conception of individuality, which, however, remained unfinished. Attention is also given to Vorovka's second major book, Americká filosofie, where he consolidates his understanding of individualism as a purely ethical problem of relating to others.
