The chapter discusses the German of the music composer Bedřich Smetana in his student diary, which was created 1840-1847 in Pilsen. The starting point of the chapter is a description of the language situation in the Czech Lands, in Bedřich Smetana's family and in his life.
Within the framework of the characteristics of Smetana's German language in his student diary, attention is paid to spelling, the influence of the spoken language on Smetana's spelling, morphology from the point of view of parts of speech, sentence structure, style and vocabulary.
