Abstract
According to statistics, more than half of all residents of industrialized countries suffer from hemorrhoids at least once in their lifetime. Symptoms associated with this disease often bring patients to the pharmacy, rather than to the doctor's office.
The task of professional pharmacy employees is to correctly evaluate the nature of the patient's problems, their severity, choose an appropriate therapeutic self-treatment procedure and, last but not least, also recommend a visit to the doctor. Symptoms accompanying hemorrhoidal disease can be more or less similar to symptoms accompanying other diseases located in the same area - whether it is, for example, perianal thrombosis, anal fissure or colorectal cancer.
The article therefore aims to acquaint the reader in the form of an overview summarized in the "5S" concept with the key areas of pharmaceutical care for patients not only with hemorrhoidal disease.
