For modern penological systems, serving a sentence in prison is not associated with mere imprisonment. Professional treatment workers in prisons and cooperating organizations strive for the overall development of the personality of convicts.
Education for citizenship thus represents a fundamental goal of penitentiary activity. The paper analyzes the methods of treatment of convicted men serving prison terms in the Czech Republic with a focus on activities that develop civic competence.
In addition to statistical data, he presents, on the basis of a qualitative survey, an evaluation of this education by employees of the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic and convicts in a selected prison.
