Abstract

The study at hand provides the first insight into the price conditions in the late medieval city-state of Cheb (1st half of the 15th century). Bohemia, Nuremberg and, to a lesser extent, Wrocław are used as the comparative regions.

The first part of the article deals with the general issue of prices, especially grain prices. In the second part, price and monetary conditions in Bohemia, Nuremberg and Wrocław are examined.

The third part presents the data from the city of Cheb. The main conclusion is the validation of the thesis that the prices of everyday commodities were fixed at nominal values on the local market, so that the purchasing power of coins was not affected by a decline in their quality.
