Portuguese writer, translator and literary critic Bruno Vieira Amaral visited the Czech Republic for the first time in mid-October 2022 and gave the following interview on that occasion. He came at the invitation of the Portuguese Center - Instituto Camões and the Department of Portuguese Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the UK as part of the Saramago Heritage project, which attracts Saramago Prize laureates to workshops and lectures.
The award bears the name of the only Portuguese Nobel laureate for literature, José Saramago, and has been awarded every odd-numbered year since autumn 1999 to female and male writers under the age of 35 for a work published in one of the Lusophone countries. Amaral received the award in 2015 for his novel About first things.
