Abstract
This monograph, written by members of the Department of Theory of Law and Legal Doctrines at the Faculty of Law of Charles University, analyses the purpose and function of law in contemporary society. The individual chapters show that the issue can be approached from different angles, resulting in multiple answers to what is the purpose and meaning of law.
However, the individual solutions do not stand in contraposition, but are complementary in nature, thus creating a more complex picture of the phenomenon under study.
