Effect of Hydrogen Doping in UTX Compounds (Article No. 07E127)

Abstract

As part of investigation of UTX compounds (T - transitional metal, X - p-metal), magnetic measurements on the hydrogenated systems U(Co,Fe)Sn and (U,Th)CoSn were performed. Both series crystallize in the hexagonal structure (ZrNiAl type, space group ).

The crystal structure type is not changed upon hydrogenation and the hydrogenation leads to a unit-cell expansion in all cases (ranging between 3.0% and 3.6%). Studies of the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility indicate certain increase of TC in the hydrides.

This increment is decreasing with increasing Fe concentration. In the compounds with Th substitution the Th concentration at which ferromagnetism vanishes (approx. 60%) remains practically unchanged after hydrogenation.
