LES of contaminant dispersion in an idealized geometry

Abstract

A Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model for flows in complex geometry have been developed. This LES model will be, after further development, mainly used for studies of dispersion atmospheric pollutants.

At this stage tests of performance of the model at two cases have been made. The first is a classical flow in a fully developed turbulent flow in a plane channel.

Our results have been compared with the direct numerical simulation (DNS) [2]. The second computed case was a regular grid of cubes placed on a solid flat plate.

This geometry represents an idealised urban canopy. The flow field and also a dispersion of a passive scalar placed in different positions in the streets have been computed.
