Abstract

Knowledge is a precondition of prosperity and sustainability of human society. The condition of acquiring, development, and use of knowledge is a proper education.

But what education in what extent? According to observations there is in current society a lack of people interested in the study of and willing to work in science, engineering, and manual jobs. There is a great demand for jobs in these areas and current situation is considered to be a crucial threat for economic development and prosperity.

This paper discusses the possible reasons of it - low rewards, expensive and difficult study, prejudices, etc. A metareason can be the missing ability (and skill) to work hard and the fact that it is often forgotten that knowledge can be useful only if appropriate skills are trained.

This situation is the consequence of the failure of social and and educational processes, especially missing feedbacks in education systems.
