Abstract

The article reviews the area of key competencies from a broader point of view. The evolution of this concept is presented, various approaches compared and international experience mentioned.

It is stressed that the key competencies formulated in Czech Framework Educational Programs are by no means the only approach to this concept. It is suggested to specify also 'rational-empirical' competencies as very important competencies developed in science and math education.
