Abstract

The alcohol consumption is 10 liters of pure alcohol for one person including newborns in the Czech Republic. About 3-5% population are dependent on alcohol in the Czech Republic.

Up to 30% of the population has a life-time prevalence of alcohol drinking with various problems. Alcohol endangers the consuming subject in various ways.

Alcohol abuse is one of the cause of premature death and preventable diseases. Not all the alcoholics are treated by physicians in the field of internal medicine.

Only 15% of alcohol abusing subjects have some liver impairment. The mortality of alcoholics treated at psychiatric wards is significantly lower as compared to the ethylic patients at the wards of gastroenterology.
