Více/viac čokolády... Utilization of Bivalency in the Czech-Slovak Language Context

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

A notion of bivalency is applied to several spheres in Slovak-Czech, Czech-Slovak bilingualism. Bivalent elements are words, forms and structures belonging to both languages in question.

In bilingual communication they represent a sphere of potential strategic choice. Utilization of bivalent elements in bilingual Czech-Slovak, Slovak-Czech communication can have various functions, the most important among them being accommodation to an addressee as a means of avoiding semicommunicative misunderstandings.
