Ottomanisation of the space between the Danube and the Golden Horn

Abstract

Ottoman expansion analysed as conflict of cultures in the Balkans. The conquest of territory was followed by immediate reorganisation and integration to the Ottoman administrative and social system viewed as a specific type of cultural conquest, with lasting influences on urban space.
