In recent years Aleksandr Nevskiy, as a legendary victor over the Swedes and the Teutonic Knights, has gained in popularity in Russia. On the other hand, mainly historians recall his eastern conciliatory policy to the Mongols that led to the subordination of Rus? by the Golden Horde.
