Discovering Ancient Egypt. Fifty Years of the Egyptian-Czech Collaboration in Archaeology

Abstract

Exhibition showed the results of the Czech archaeological excavations in the pyramid necropolis in Abusir as well as the results of fifty years of cooperation between the Czech and Egyptian archaeologists. The central subject of the exhibition was the pyramid necropolis in Abusir.

Five decades of work by the Czech archaeological team were presented through a great number of artifacts from the Old Kingdom and the Late Period. More that 150 objects were exhibited in the context of the large-scale photographs of Abusir necropolis and the banners describing various activities and projects of the Czech Institute of Egyptology concerning Nubia, Abusir, el-Hayez oasis but also the application of modern methods and technologies in Egyptian archaeology.

The exhibition was prepared in close collaboration with the Egypt's Ministry of Culture ? Supreme Council of Antiquities, Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Egypt.
