On Otherness: In Praise of Contingency

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2006

Abstract

The article attempts to show the intersubjective dimension of human action (especially in the philosophy of H.-G. Gadamer).

The author approves of the Gadamerian emphasis on the contingent character of our encounters with otherness, but he criticizes Gadamer's tendency to interpret encounter as a search for unity or consensus.
