Self-confident or desperate? Farming widows in the country in the first half of the 19th century.

Abstract

The contribution depicts the fates of widowed women living in the estate Šťáhlavy in 1800-1835. The author follows which way they chose for they further living.

They could become an independent farmer, remarry or leave to peasant retirement arrangements.
