Abstract
The study deals with a problem of theoretical approaches toward less institucionalized regimes, supposedly based on strong personality of the leader. Traditionally, political science defined them as a 'presonalistic rule'.
Due to a more complex character of Venezuelan society, the author rejects such approach, and uses the Linz´s definition of the 'authoritarian situation'.
