Abstract

The chapter focuses on the process of dissolution of convential conditions of representation in Czech painting. Author discusses the early conditions of expressionism in Czech painting as well as the connection between impressionism and expressionism.

On the topic of landscape, periphery and the city he shows the shift towards the archaic expression and towards the terryfiing mood of the motive. Painters like Antonín Chitussi, Luiděk Marold, Antonín Slavíček, František Kupka and Emil Filla are discussed.
