Cerebral venous thrombosis and its relation to female sexual hormones

Abstract

Cerebral venous thrombosis is a rare disease concerning predominantly young women using hormonal contraception (54% of cases). We collected data from 33 patients with CVT, oral contraception was used by 16 patients (48%), 2 (6%) used HT, 3 (9%) underwent Caesarean section.

Inherited thrombophilia was present in 4 patients (12%), two of whom were users of oral contraception.
