Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

Metabolic bone disease can complicate a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders. It may be silent for a long time and a serious complication (mostly fractures) can be its first clinical manifestation.

Secondary osteoporosis is the most common type of metabolic bone disease in gastrointestinal illness, osteomalacia is less frequent. Metabolic bone disease is treatable, nevertheless its prevention must be the primary approach.
