Abstract

It was hypothesised that improving living standards, hygienic lifestyles and reduced pattern of exposure to parasites lead to disordered regulation of the immune system and hence increase in certain allergic disorders (atopy, eczema, asthma, food allergy) and autoimmunity (type 1 diabetes mellitus, inflammatory bowel disease).
