Multicenter evaluation of the hemolysis index in automated clinical chemistry systems

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2009

Abstract

Serum from healthy volunteer was spiked by varying amount of hemolyzed blood to provide serum free hemoglobin concentration ranging from 0.0 g/L to 2.0 g/L. Spiked samples were measured in seven separate laboratories and hemolysis index was tested. Satisfactory agreement was observed among the various analyzers despite a trend toward overestimation by the ADVIA analyzers.

After normalizing results according to the instrument-specific alert value, discrepancies were reduced and all instruments except for the Dimension RxL gave acceptable values
