Assessment of oral-health-related quality of life in pediatric patients

Abstract

This review study assesses the reasons causing growing interest in patient reported outcomes of therapy effects. It characterizes the concept of oral-health-related-quality of life and shows the difficulties arising from its application in children.

The study focuses on the methods especially suitable for assessing quality of life in children and adolescents while introducing twelve questionnaires from varies countries of origin. The questionnaires are organized according to respondents' age and, as a result, they differ in their length, number of variables, answering mode and in their psychometric characteristics.

The study draws attention to the fact that quality of life assessment is becoming a common element not only in clinical research abroad but it is also gradually starting to constitute an integral part of everyday practice.
