The use of restraints and quality of care for patients with dementia

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2008

Abstract

Current care for patients with dementia is discussed in the light of the report of the Public Defender of Rights. It is apparent that the current care for persons with dementia is not sufficient in many ways and in many institutions; insufficient duality of care results in frequent use of restraints.

Therefore, we emphasize the urgent need to find solutions on how to improve this very unsatisfactory situation. We also introduce the Czech Alzheimer Societies strategy on care for persons with dementia.
