Abstract

We have described the compartmentalization of the SEZ in relation to the intensity and manner of reaction of neurogenic niche to the neurodegenerative process within the striatum. Particularly we documented that astrocyte-like cells in the adult SEZ, during their extensive proliferation, retain some features of embryonic stem cells, including the reexpression of vimentin intermediate filaments which contributes to the suggestion that they are derivatives of radial glia.
