Abstract

Review focused on selected classical and novel biochemicals markers of bone metabolism disturbances in chronic renal failure. Problems associated with interpretation of serum iPTH are mentioned.

The toxic role of hyperphosphatemia in renal failure is explained, as well as the importance of analysis of serum concentration of vitamin D metabolites. Among novel molecules, FGF-23 (fibroblast growth factor 23) and fetuin A are introduced.
