Abstract
Is the grammar of Czech being destroyed stone by stone? The presentday declension status of the socalled declension types kámen (stone) and břímě (burden/load) Annotation: A complex treatment (made with use both of the representative Czech National Corpus and of the Internet) of present-day declension of two types of substantives; as for those types, the opinion prevails the older soft forms be replaced by newer hard ones. The study shows the state as a rather varied, so that both groups dont deserve the label ?types? (cut after a common morphological behavior).
This state didnt appear nowadays, but remains during long centuries without any remarkable ?progress?. Even some aberations in treating single substantives have left their first traces in OldCzech texts; however, during further development of Czech, they have not gained a more remarkable position.
