Abstract

The author compares the descriptions of the festive arrival of Emperor Charles IV. on his visit to the Pope in Avignon in May 1365, in the works of three contemporary historians, John Neplach, abbot in Opatovice monastery in Bohemia, John of Reading, monk in Westminster abbey in London, and the anonymous chronicler of Bologna.
