Abstract
The first trials concerning the use of intrauterine systems for contraception in the new history appear at the beginning of the 20th century. The actual development of intrauterine contraception dates back to the 1960?s.
Initially were used chemically inert, plastic or metal bodies. Further developments provide bodies with biologically active substances. Most frequently used is copper, in which a contraception effect has been confirmed.
Completely new dimension of intrauterine contraception development represents introduction of hormonal active devices.
