Abstract

The combination of alfa2?agonist - ketamine is used in anaesthasia of primates. Medetomidine represents a highly selective alfa2?agonist of alfa2 receptors (the selectivity of alfa2/alfa1 receptors is 1620:1), whereas the selectivity of xylasine is 160:1, of clonidine 220:1, respectively.

Medetomidine is used to sedation and analgesia of dogs, cats and various species of laboratory animals. The combination with ketamine is used to immobilize animals in the ZOO.

The decrease in blood pressure and heart frequency were dependent on the dose of medetomidine used. The effect of clinical doses on respiration is slightly pronounced.
