Contribution of exhaled nitric oxide measurement for asthma management in children

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2007

Abstract

Evalution of bronchial inflammation and monitoring of anti-inflammatory effect of therapy with the help of a rapid noninvasive test is essential because children with bronchial asthma require long-term pharmacotherapy with inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). The concentration of nitric oxide in the exhaled breath (eNO) reflects the intensity of eosinophilic inflammation in the lower airways.

The test for eNO is highly reproducible, noninvasive, simple and safe.
