Carcinoma of the penis - brachytherapy as an alternative to amputation

Abstract

Carcinoma of the penis is a rare tumour of the male urogenital tract, that may be treated by using various modalities. Interstitial brachytherapy is an effective methode to achieve local control and to spare penile morphology and function.

The indication are tumors with diameter of less than 4 cm with no invasion of the corpora cavernosa. In these cases, local control has been achieved in 85 % of patients.
