Abstract
The health status of European citizens has improved in the last decades due to better living and working conditions and health care, however, there are still important inequalities in health among various regions, countries and groups of inhabitants. Health care systems can improve health and thus decrease inequalities in health, provided that they are flexible and responsive to specific needs and expectations of all, including poor, people, seniors, legal or illegal immigrants, the handicapped, ethnic minorities and others.
