The authors describe a case of a 68-year-old woman admitted because of signs of acute coronary syndrome caused by papillary fibroelastoma growing from the aortic valve close to the ostium of the right coronary artery. Successful cardiac surgery was performed on an emergency basis.
Cardiac surgery is indicated even in asymptomatic patients with an incidental finding of papillary fibroelastoma on echocardiographic examination.
