The Sling Surgeries for Female Stress Urinary Incontinence

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

The sling operative procedures are the most effective methods in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. The aim of these surgical procedures is passing solid tape under the uretra creating strong support of lower urinary tract sphincter.

There are two types of sling procedures. The first type is pubovaginal sling in which is used fascial tape for underlaying of the uretra and the second type is tension-free vaginal tape with syntetic tape.

The pubovaginal sling is high efficient, but invasive surgery with possible risk of serious adverse events. Miniinvasive sling surgery as TVT (Tension-free Vaginal Tape) and TOT (Transobturator Tape) are effective and safe methods.

There is probable, that miniinvasive sling methods will be used more frequently for all types of female stress incontinence.
