Abstract
Sore throat in children is often the reason for a visit to the pediatrian?s office. The majority of these illnesses are of viral origin and that is why it is not an indication for antibiotic pharmacotherapy.
Viral pharyngitis treatment is symptomatic except for acute herpetic gingivostomatitis in immuno-supreme children. In these cases Acyclovir is indicated. To prevent any complications it is necessary to diagnose and treat well acute streptococcal pharyngitis.
Penicillin V is still used, usually for 10 days. A tonsillectomy is needed in case of chronic tonsillitis.
